Welcome to Mrs. Klamm's "M"-azing Classroom!

Welcome to our second grade classroom where "M"-azing things happen!  My blog is written with the intent to share "M"-azing ideas that have worked well over the past twenty two years as well as new "M"-azing ideas that I discover from numerous resources!

Here are some pictures of my classroom from the
2012-2013 school year!  I have recently purchased some m&m fabric and with the help of an "M"-azing colleague I will have curtains, pillows, chair pads, and table covers for the 2013-2014 school year!  I will post those as soon as they are up and ready!  I hope you enjoy our classroom tour!

Here are two pictures of our math learning station!  The kids are able to focus on topic vocabulary as well as each lesson objective!  I have found over many years that organization is key!

The bags you see hanging are labeled with  a student number and all the necessary math manipulatives they will need throughout the course of the school year!  Each student is responsible for keeping their bag organized and take careful inventory at the end of each math session to make sure all manipulatives are back in place.  I do have individual baggies labeled within the bag for small pieces.  This has cut down tremendously on time spent handing out materials and so forth!

Having a table is a wonderful place for additional practice of skills.  Everything is labeled clearly for students to locate materials and return them to their proper location.

Here is our Reading focus board.  Last year I added the pocket chart and with the help of my Cricut machine I cut out the letters to help label the story essentials.  Anchor charts are a must and are switching constantly to match our reading focus skill/focus strategy.  We are able to manipulate the story vocabulary (alphabetizing, matching word to definintion, creating visual images of each word and so forth)!  This has really drawn attention to what are the big ideas in our learning!

Children are able to identify easily where they are working during literacy station worktime.  As a prior kindergarten teacher I see the significant value of literacy stations and also the need for student choice within workstations. I am a huge proponent for station work time.
